Kevin Drinkell thinks ‘under the radar’ Rangers ace will be eager to deliver against Celtic

Glasgow Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos has been praised by Kevin Drinkell, who thinks the Ibrox ace will be eager to keep his big-game goalscoring run when up against Celtic on Sunday.

The Colombia international has registered 16 goals and 12 assists this season, and has netted in big games including against Lech Poznan, Benfica and Royal Antwerp in the Europa League.

Likewise, Morelos’ goal drought against Celtic came to an end the last time they locked horns, cancelling out Mohamed Elyounoussi’s opener at Parkhead in March.

Rangers have long wrapped up the Scottish Premiership title, but Sunday’s Old Firm derby will see the two rivals face off for a place in the quarter-finals of the Scottish Cup.

Drinkell saw Morelos break his scoring duck against Celtic last time out and reckons there could be more of the same at Ibrox this weekend.

“You could see what the goal meant for Morelos in that last game for Celtic,” the former Rangers striker told the . “It was massive for him to score that first goal against Celtic.

“It had been something like 14 games without a goal and it was always a major topic of conversation going into the Old Firm game.

“The last game, though, there wasn’t as much talk about it because Rangers had already won the league.

“Morelos, probably, went a bit under the radar, nobody was talking about him scoring and that turned out to be the game where he finally got his goal.

“That has been the big thing for Morelos this year. He might not score as many goals domestically but has come to the fore in the big games in Europe and now against Celtic.

“He has definitely shone in Europe and shown his quality and class. He has delivered when it has mattered and that’s what all the top strikers do.

“I’m sure Morelos will be looking to keep that going again on Sunday.”
