Kenny Miller tips 23-year-old to become a ‘big player for Rangers’ and to have a ‘wonderful career’
Glasgow Rangers cult hero Kenny Miller has spoken highly about Ibrox winger Ryan Kent to , tipping the 23-year-old to “have a wonderful career”.
Kent initially joined Rangers in the summer of 2018 on a season-long loan from Liverpool and he instantly impressed for Steven Gerrard’s side.
The former Barnsley and Bristol City loanee scored six goals and claimed nine assists in for Rangers in all competitions, his exploits making him a fan favourite with the Bears.
Rangers went on to spend £7million () to sign Kent last summer, but although he’s still doing well in front of goal, he seems to have gone off track in terms of production and creativity.
Indeed, he , a worrying statistic given how Rangers’ domestic season having collapsed since the start of the year.
However, Miller is not too concerned, telling : “What you’ve got to remember about Ryan Kent is he is a young player.
“It took him a little bit of time to get up to speed and get used to his surroundings, and then he lit it up last year – I thought he was absolutely outstanding from October onwards. He was a real shining light in the domestic and European campaigns last year.
“This season, there’s been a lot made about his price tag, and that’s something that needs to be forgotten about. That’s not Ryan Kent’s fault, that’s a price agreed between two clubs, nothing to do with the player. Does it add extra pressure? I think it does because the club has outlaid a lot of money, and the fans realise that too, but it doesn’t take away from the fact he is still a young man near the start of his career – and he’s going to have a wonderful career.
“His form has not been quite what everyone would have expected, definitely not me. I think coming back to Ibrox permanently, and knowing what the club is about, knowing the manager, the standards of players… I’ve seen flashes of his brilliance, but it’s not been as consistent as we expected.
“There’s no doubt he’s going to be a big player for Rangers over the four or five years of his contract, but as always in Glasgow you need to make an immediate impact, particularly with everything that is at stake at the moment.”

Kent has admittedly not quite had the same impact on a regular basis as he did last season, and in wake of Rangers’ domestic season collapsing, there is a strong feelings amongst fans that some players simply need to be doing better.
The 23-year-old is clearly a talented player who has the individual ability to torment defences in Scotland, but failing to get a single assist so far this season when last term, his maiden campaign at Rangers, saw him claim six, is concerning.
Nonetheless, like Miller has said, Kent is young, has plenty of room for improvement and, once football comes back, will certainly look to work on his flaws in order to become a star for the Ibrox side once again.
