Kenny Miller says Rangers have a ‘phenomenal’ player who’ll be ‘desperate’ to face Celtic

Glasgow Rangers goalkeeper Allan McGregor is a “phenomenal” player who’ll thrive on the pressure of this weekend’s clash with Celtic, according to Ibrox cult hero Kenny Miller.

The 39-year-old stopper has been a superb player for the Gers over the years and has been instrumental for the Light Blues in their successful pursuit of title number 55.

McGregor is closing in on 400 competitive appearances for Rangers over two spells, with four Scottish Premiership titles, five Scottish League Cups and three Scottish Cup wins to his name.

This season, he has featured 38 times, keeping 20 clean sheets and conceding just 28 goals.

And at the start of April, McGregor signed a one-year contract extension at Rangers, committing his future to the Ibrox club until the summer of 2022.

Miller, one of McGregor’s former teammates at Ibrox, spoke highly of the goalkeeper, as well as fellow Gers veteran Steven Davis, ahead of Sunday’s Scottish Cup tie with Celtic.

“This Old Firm game on Sunday won’t be one they’re anxious about,” Miller told . “They will be counting the days desperate for it to start.

“Look at Greegsy, he comes alive when the pressure’s on. He has been absolutely phenomenal this season, even at the age of 39.

“Some of the saves he’s made are incredible. But he has done that throughout his career, making big saves in big moments to put points on the board.”

What else can be said about McGregor that hasn’t been said? He continues to shine for Rangers and his place as an Ibrox legend is already assured.

Miller, a player who’s featured for both Old Firm sides, knows McGregor well and knows what it takes to shine in the derby – the goalkeeper will no doubt play a big role in the game.
