Kenny Miller has praised Rangers midfield Steven Davis after his European performance and feels he can go a little under the radar at Ibrox.
The 34-year-old midfielder helped the Gers record an eye-catching 2-0 home victory against Porto on Thursday night.
Steven Gerrard’s team earned the win in the Europa League group stages and in-form striker Alfredo Morelos opened the scoring in the second-half with a left-footed finish.
Davis then wrapped up three points shortly after with his first goal of the season, as his defected shot from the edge of the box went past the goalkeeper.
The central midfield may have scored just one goal in 21 appearances this season, but he play’s such a more vital role in the centre of the park than that may suggest.
He’s an all-action midfield that helps link up play and break up play, while his experience plays a massive role on others.
The 107-time capped Northern Ireland international is still capable of delivering against quality opponents like Porto and Gerrard always picks him for the big fixtures.
Miller was majorly impressed by the display of Davis in midweek and suggests he’s underrated.
“He’s a standout in terms of he’s just that quiet figure, sometimes he goes a bit unnoticed,”
“He does the right things, his decision making is always spot on.”
TBR’s View:
Davis does a lot of hard grafting in the centre of the park that can’t be measured easily, but there is no doubt he’s a vital cog in the midfield for Rangers.
It still looks like he has plenty of running left in the tank despite his age and will continue to be pivotal moving forward this campaign.
The Gers are right in the mix domestically after a brilliant start, while in Europe’s it’s important they go as deep into the competition as they can.
Rangers will reach the knockout rounds if they win away to Feyenoord in December and Gerrard has to pick his best XI for that fixture, which includes workhorse Davis.
