Kenny Miller impressed by performance of Rangers defender Borna Barisic

Kenny Miller hailed Rangers defender Borna Barisic for his performance on Thursday night against Young Boys.

The Gers recorded a 1-1 draw at Ibrox, which was enough to see them quality from their Europa League group as runners-up and they are unseeded in the knockout round draw.

They now know they will still have European football in the second half of the season after escaping a difficult group and it was the perfect response to the weekend’s League Cup final defeat.

Alfredo Morelos buried some demons by scoring against Young Boys in the first-half and the game should have been out of sight.

But Barisic accidentally prodded in an own goal in the 89th minute and it means the hosts had to grind out a result in stoppage time.

Pundit Miller feels that Barisic was really impressive on the night despite his own goal and claims he was part of an impressive backline.

The left-back made a number of great blocks throughout the contest to help his side and was tenacious with his tackling, as well as proving a great attacking outlet.

He’s certainly grown into a key player for Steven Gerrard’s team and the Rangers defence has played a major role in qualification for the Europa League Round of 32.

“Rangers stood up to it, they defended pretty well for everything that was thrown at them. Barisic who I thought had a very, very good good night defensively was very sound. Unfortunate to put the ball in his own net,”

TBR’s View:

Barisic was one of the standout players on the night against Young Boys despite his late error and it’s remarkable how much confidence he’s now playing with.

The 27-year-old looks miles away from the player that first arrived at Ibrox at the beginning of last season and he’s showing why he is a regular starter for national side Croatia.

He has 10 assists in 23 games across all competitions this campaign to highlight his threat going forward, but defensively he’s usually reliably and has improved so much.
