Kenny Miller delivers verdict on title races involving Liverpool and Celtic
Former Celtic and Rangers striker Kenny Miller has been discussing the difference between the Hoops and Liverpool in their respective title races to
Miller spent one season at Celtic Park during the 2006/07 campaign and has enjoyed three different spells playing for Rangers.
He believes that the two title races in England and Scotland have to be judged differently, implying that Liverpool’s race is won but Celtic’s isn’t.
Miller, now the assistant manager at Newcastle Jets explained this during a recent interview.
“It’ll be interesting to see what happens in the different leagues.
“Before the games stopped in Scotland Celtic were overwhelming favourites to win the league. That’s stating the obvious.
“What’s also stating the obvious is that Rangers sit 13 points behind with a game in hand and have Celtic to play twice.
“You can talk about Rangers’ form all you want. If you think about it, in the previous two Old Firm games Rangers have been the better side, so it’s not out with the realms of all possibility they’d beat them twice.
“In an Old Firm game anything can happen and Rangers would have believed they could win them both, that 13-point gap could be eroded away.
“Listen this isn’t me talking as a Rangers fan or an ex-Rangers player, but Celtic don’t have the same kind of lead Liverpool have.
“Celtic are not two games away from winning the league.”
Football in England and Scotland is currently suspended until April 3rd at the very earliest.
Decision
UEFA have said that all leagues must be finished by 30th June and teams are now left wondering what might happen.
Rangers winning the title does seem unlikely particularly looking at their form since the turn of the year.
Liverpool not winning the title would be a travesty. They haven’t won the league title for nearly 30 years and are currently 25 points clear.
That said, it’s impossible to comprehend two different sets of rules for leagues in different countries.
If the Premier League is deemed null and void for example, then surely the Scottish Premiership would be too.
The authorities certainly have some big calls to make should resuming the season become impossible.
