that Lawrence Shankland has the quality to score at any level after being called up by Steve Clarke to the Scotland squad, amid reported interest from both Celtic and Rangers.
Shankland, 24, has been in incredible form since joining Ayr United in the summer of 2017. He netted 61 goals in 73 league and cup appearances, earning a move to Dundee United in the latest window. He has since scored 15 goals in 13 games.
His impeccable form has seen Shankland called up to Clarke’s side, as Scotland prepare to take on Russia away from home before returning to hose San Marino. Shankland could earn his first cap for Scotland.
both Celtic and Rangers have scouted Shankland, watching him score a hat-trick against Morton last month. he is worth £2million, and Dalglish believes he is capable of scoring at any level.
“Yes, I totally get the argument that he isn’t playing in Scotland’s top flight, and is operating at a level below,” “But being able to put the ball in the back of the net is an art – regardless of the stage you are playing on.
“You need to have instinct, and you need to know when to be in the right place at the right time. Lawrence clearly has that. So he should be regarded as an asset.”
TBR’s view – Rangers and Celtic – who will get Shankland?
Rangers and Celtic need to sign Shankland. Both sides could do with more fire power up front, even if Celtic have three options in Odsonne Edouard, Leigh Griffiths and Vakoun Bayo. The latter is struggling, while Griffiths is in and out of the side.
Jermain Defoe is only on loan, while The Gers also boast Alfredo Morelos. But whoever will sign Shankland depends on which team wants him more – and whether the player himself prefers the green or blue half of Glasgow.
