Kemar Roofe has a new nickname for Rangers star Jermain Defoe, Ianis Hagi also comments
Jermain Defoe took his tally of goals at Rangers to 30 on Sunday evening as Steven Gerrard’s side eased past Cove Rangers to set up a last-16 tie with Celtic in the Scottish Cup – and Kemar Roofe has a new nickname for the veteran striker.
Defoe, 38, bagged one of four goals at Ibrox as Rangers saw off a brave Cove side who had defied the odds to knock Hearts out of the competition in the previous round. Rangers were not in as forgiving a mood, scoring all four in the first half.
Ex-Tottenham, Portsmouth, Sunderland, West Ham and Bournemouth striker Defoe got the ball rolling. Picking up the ball 25 yards out, he drove forward before lashing a typical Defoe-like effort into the bottom corner. A brilliant strike.
The 57-time England star now has a whopping 30 goals and 10 assists in 67 appearances for the Gers – even though only 32 of those matches have come in the starting line-up. He posted on Instagram after taking his tally to 30 for the Scottish side.
Rangers will now face Celtic at the early stage of the last 16 in the competition following the win, with the match set to take place at Ibrox on either the 17th, or 18th of April. By then, Celtic might even have a new manager in the dugout.
Roofe responded by posting a new nickname for Defoe in the comments on the striker’s Instagram post – while plenty of others also reacted to his goal including Ally McCoist. Romanian ace Ianis Hagi replying: “Class is permanent”.
