Kemar Roofe credits Leeds manager Marcelo Bielsa for fixed striker position

Kemar Roofe has praised Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa for giving him a central role this season and believes it’s been a big reason behind his success.

The 26-year-old is unfortunately sidelined through injury right now, but has been one of the key players for the Whites this campaign in the promotion bid.

He’s been used as a centre-forward at Elland Road, scoring 14 goals in just 26 Championship games so far and is hopeful he makes a return before the end of the season.

The English attacker is a versatile player that has been used in both wide and central areas at the Yorkshire club, but Bielsa has preferred him as his frontline striker when he’s been available.

“I’m always confident I can score goals and I like scoring goals. Being in this team and in the number nine position all of the time has helped a lot,”

“ In previous seasons I’ve moved around a lot and it can be hard to get a good flow in one position.

There is no doubt that Roofe has felt the benefit of having a fixed position and has been a machine at striker this term.

He’s got the pace to hurt centre-backs when running in behind, while his incredible work-rate makes him a perfect fit within Bielsa’s system.

Roofe would surely have smashed the 20-goal barrier if not for his bad luck with injuries this term, but he will still have a big role play in the push for promotion and there is still a chance that Leeds could have to go through the dreaded play-offs.

The striker is playing the best football of his career so far and the Argentinian boss deserves immense credit for that.
