Keep four, release Mile Jedinak: What should Aston Villa do with their 10 out-of-contract players?

Aston Villa have 10 players with expiring contracts () and Dean Smith will need to make decisions on their futures soon.

Jordan Lyden’s exit has already been  but there are 10 other players who are awaiting decisions.

Here are the 10 out-of-contract Aston Villa players and what we think Aston Villa should do with them.

Keep Tommy Elphick and three others

Since returning from his loan spell at Hull City, Tommy Elphick has impressed at centre-back. Smith rates Elphick more than Steve Bruce did and he provides defensive depth with Tyrone Mings and Kortney Hause only on loan.

Glenn Whelan‘s recent form could have earned him a new deal. The Republic of Ireland international’s experience will also help Aston Villa’s younger players.

Young defenders Easah Suliman and Mitch Clark also deserve more time. Suliman, 21, has had a disappointing season after an unsuccessful loan stint in Holland but he is still highly rated. Clark, 20, has been impressive on loan at Port Vale.

It is time to part ways with veteran duo Mile Jedinak and Alan Hutton. Both players are past their best and Aston Villa need to trim their wage bill.

Micah Richards will be released and he could be set for retirement, . The ex-England international has not played in more than two-and-a-half years.

Goalkeeper Mark Bunn is surplus to requirements with Jed Steer, Orjan Nyland and Lovre Kalinic ahead of him in the pecking order.

Meanwhile, Ritchie De Laet is on loan in Australia and it is difficult to see him with a future at Villa Park.

Young striker Harry McKirdy is unlikely to break into the first-team and he should be allowed to pursue his career elsewhere.
