‘Keep an eye’… Alasdair Gold says Tottenham could yet make Destiny Udogie-esque signing in January
Alasdair Gold has suggested that Tottenham Hotspur could make a Destiny Udogie-esque signing in January.
Spurs have already wrapped up a deal to sign Timo Werner on loan, with the club officially announcing the signing on Tuesday evening.
Ange Postecoglou has seemingly got his wish in the centre-back department too as Radu Dragusin closes in on a move to north London.
But it’s well-documented that Spurs are also in the market for a new midfielder, with Pape Matar Sarr and Yves Bissouma currently at AFCON 2024.
And Alasdair Gold has hinted that Tottenham may even look to bring in a younger player in the position and then loan him back to his current club, much like they did with Destiny Udogie and Sarr.

Tottenham could look for Udogie-esque signing
Speaking in his latest video, Gold discussed Tottenham’s plans for the rest of the window after snapping up Werner and Dragusin.
“Spurs have got the kind of real two priority positions done and the number eight one it would be great to have it done, but they can have a little bit more time,” the Football.London journalist said. “And if that is something that is later in the window, if that even is a deadline day signing, then that’s fine.
“I wouldn’t put it past Spurs to maybe look at also, or maybe for this signing, a young player that is sent back on loan, like Udogie or Sarr.
“I know they’ve been linked with Arthur Vermeeren, the young Belgian lad, as well and maybe he’s someone they look to do something like that with.
“They are always looking for those kinds of deals, especially with how well the Udogie and Sarr ones worked out.
“It’s clear that’s a massive area now for clubs is that kind of loan-back way of doing things. So, keep an eye on those kinds of deals as well.”

Spurs snapped up Udogie back in the summer of 2022 and loaned him back to Udinese for the following campaign.
The North Londoners completely exactly the same type of deal to sign Sarr, who joined from FC Metz in 2021 before spending the campaign on loan in France.
It’s fair to say that both moves worked out brilliantly, with the duo excelling under Postecoglou this term.
Yet, should someone like Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg depart, Tottenham will need an extra man in midfield straight away.
They have been linked with moves for the likes of Conor Gallagher and Kalvin Phillips. But it remains to be seen whether or not Spurs could get a deal over the line for either player.
