Kalvin Phillips tips youngster to be one of the best Leeds have got

Kalvin Phillips that Leif Davis is the young player Leeds United fans need to keep a very close eye on in the future as he has the potential to be one of the best defenders the Whites have got.

Davis is one of a number of players seemingly straddling the line between the under-23s and first-team at Elland Road.

He has had opportunities for Marcelo Bielsa’s side. However, he is yet to make a single league start since making his senior debut back in 2018 when Leeds beat Aston Villa 3-2.

That may leave some wondering whether the 20-year-old will be able to become a key player for Leeds in the coming years. But Phillips insisted that he has the ability to develop into a first-team regular.

“One of the players that we haven’t seen much of yet, but we will get to see in the future definitely is Leif Davis, just because he’s that good of a player,” .

“If he just settled down a little bit, screwed his head on a little bit, he’ll be up there with one of the best left-back, left midfielders, centre-halves that we’ve got.”

It should certainly excite Leeds fans that Phillips has tipped Davis for such a bright future. There have been glimpses of his potential so far.

And it was telling that Bielsa decided to bring him on during the second-half of Leeds’s clash with Manchester City this season.

He faces a tall order trying to get into the Whites lineup right now. Stuart Dallas has been a revelation at left-back. And Bielsa promoted Gjanni Alioski to the starting XI against Villa last week.

But Phillips is clearly optimistic that Davis’s time will come – provided that he continues to work hard, particularly at this stage of his career.
