Kalvin Phillips shares funny text Liam Cooper sent him after England masterclass

Kalvin Phillips has revealed that Leeds United captain Liam Cooper sent him a humorous text message after his England masterclass at Euro 2020.

Phillips, 25, put in a superb man of the match display during England’s 1-0 win on Sunday over Croatia in their first group game of the Euros.

The Whites central midfielder caught the eye because of his relentless energy around the pitch. Additionally, he assisted Raheem Sterling’s winning goal with a slick through ball.

In contrast, 29-year-old Leeds teammate Cooper played during a 2-0 defeat for Scotland against Czech Republic.

There could be a Leeds reunion on the pitch on Friday when England face Scotland at Wembley Stadium in the second group match for both nations.

“Liam text me after the game. He just said ‘Kalvin you’re a joke. I hope you don’t play like that well on Friday’,”

Phillips surprise package for England so far

There has been just one England game so far at this summer’s Euros, but Leeds midfielder Phillips is the early contender for surprise package.

His performance against a quality opposition in Croatia has the whole country talking about him.

He usually operates as a single pivot at the base of the Leeds midfield. However, he’s shown more of an all-ground game for England, so surely Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate will keep him in the starting XI against Scotland.

The Leeds star should start again down to the fact he’s in possession of the shirt right now, so he just needs to churn out more high quality performances.
