Kalvin Phillips and Luke Ayling react on Instagram to former Leeds star’s goal
Kalvin Phillips has labelled former Leeds United star Alex Mowatt a joke on Instagram after he scored a stunning goal for West Brom on Tuesday night.
What’s the story?
Mowatt has scored 27 goals in the Championship during his career. And it is probably quicker to count the ones that were not screamers.

But perhaps the best of the lot actually came this week as the Baggies beat Cardiff City 4-0 in the Welsh capital.
Mowatt scored a stunning volley from outside the box to put Valerien Ismael’s men 3-0 up against the Bluebirds.
Given that he left most watching the game speechless, it was somewhat fitting that his post on Instagram following the game included no words.

Understandably, the midfielder received a raft of responses from teammates past and present.
And amongst those to reply were Phillips and Ayling, who will certainly remember some stunning goals from his time at Elland Road…

Leeds could have done a lot worse than bring Mowatt back this summer
One of the Whites fans’ big frustrations about this season was the club’s inability to sign a new midfielder during the transfer window.
And it does appear to be hurting Leeds in the opening weeks of the campaign.
And in truth, it is not difficult to see why.
Mowatt’s departure appeared to be necessary for his career. His development was stagnating.
However, that was before Marcelo Bielsa arrived and transformed several players, including Phillips.
Mowatt was also available on a free transfer this summer. So you can understand why some fans wish he had been brought back.
