Kai Havertz’s first interaction with Viktor Gyokeres has Arsenal fans all saying the same thing
New Arsenal signing Viktor Gyokeres has been meeting his new teammates, including the man he could replace in their starting eleven, Kai Havertz.
After much back and forth, Arsenal agreed a £64m deal for Viktor Gyokeres with Portuguese side Sporting.
The striker arrives on the back of an impressive season and could make his Gunners debut against Tottenham Hotspur.
Rio Ferdinand has doubts over Gyokeres and his ability to perform in the Premier League, which kicks off for the North London club on August 17 versus Manchester United.
Ahead of the new season getting underway, the 27-year-old has been meeting his new teammates, including Kai Havertz.

Arsenal fans react to Kai Havertz’s first interaction with Viktor Gyokeres
Arsenal shared an Instagram video of the centre-forward meeting many of their players for the first time on Tuesday.
And supporters have taken special notice of what Havertz said to Gyokeres when they met for the first time.
The German asked, ‘Are you happy?’, to which the ex-Coventry City ace responded: ‘Yes, I’m happy’.
Arsenal fans have since taken to the comment section of the post to praise Havertz and suggest that he is going to lose his place in the eleven to Gyokeres.
One fan wrote: “Respect to Havertz, Vic is taking his spot, but Havertz seemed the happiest to have him there.”
Another responded: “Havertz: Are you happy you’re replacing me?”
“Are you happy, Kai?” questioned a third Gunners supporter.
Another wrote: “Havertz: Are you happy? We’re happy he’s taking your spot!”
A fifth commented: “Havertz asking if he is happy. He should be asked that question.”
“That ‘are you happy?’ From Havertz seems a bit personal,” suggested a sixth fan.
Kai Havertz could face more competition at Arsenal
With no truly recognised number nine option, Havertz spent much of 2024/25 as Mikel Arteta’s main striker.
Position | Appearances | Goals |
Centre-forward | 29 | 11 |
Attacking midfield | 4 | 3 |
Second striker | 1 | 1 |
Gyokeres, meanwhile, played 52 games, scored 54 goals and assisted 13 for Sporting in 2024/25, all of which saw him deployed as a striker.
It means Arteta will most likely use his new £64m man as Arsenal’s primary centre-forward next term, with Havertz likely pushed back into a deeper role or used off the bench or as part of the rotation.
But even when moved back into an attacking midfield role, Havertz could face more competition in the coming months.
Arsenal fans think Eberechi Eze will sign for them, and he largely plays across the attacking midfield positions.
The Gunners ‘love Rodrygo’ as well, and his arrival would take up another spot in Arteta’s front four.
