‘It’s all done’: Fabrizio Romano claims title-winning club has just signed ‘brilliant’ Tottenham player

Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur no longer have Steven Bergwijn on their books.

Spurs have been wanting to offload the Netherlands international this summer amid interest from Ajax.

Bergwijn has long struggled to establish himself as a first-team player at Tottenham.

Antonio Conte seldom gave him game time as he remained surplus to requirements last term.

Over the past 24 hours, speculation linking Bergwijn with a move away from Spurs intensified considerably.

On Tuesday evening, Romano declared “here we go” on the player’s move from Tottenham to Ajax.

He claimed Spurs and Ajax had agreed a price for Bergwijn and the deal was in its final stages.

And on Wednesday, Romano provided further updates.

Early in the morning, he claimed Bergwijn was in Amsterdam to undergo his medical and sign the contract.

And by lunchtime, the only thing left was the official club statement confirming Bergwijn’s arrival, added Romano.

Although things haven’t really worked out for Bergwijn at Tottenham, there’s no doubt he’s a great player.

This move is definitely the best thing for all parties and there’s every chance he’ll prosper back in the Netherlands.

Bergwijn, deemed “brilliant” by Danny Murphy, is quick, good on the ball, and clinical in front of goal.

At the same time, Paratici has done really well to negotiate such a high fee for him.

Spurs paid around £27m for Bergwijn, so they’ll be recouping most of that.
