Gary Neville says £40m Tottenham man was ‘just running the game’ against Manchester United

Tottenham went to Manchester United and put in a statement performance to cement their credentials as serious top four hopefuls.

Ange Postecoglou’sও side were on the front foot throughout and but for some better finishing, would have had United beaten by half-time.

Tottenham’s cause was aided by a sending off for Bruno Fernandes, who was given his marching orders for hacking down James Maddison.

ꦺOf course, that allowed Maddison and Tottenham’s midfield that bit more time on the ball and in the end, he made United pay with a superb display.

🧔And watching on for Sky, Gary Neville admitted that Maddison had been running things completely.

Gary Neville impressed by James Maddison v Manchester United

♛Speaking on commentary in the second half, Neville suggested Tottenham should have scored more goals and in doing so, praised Maddison for being the main man on the pitch.

🦹“It should be four or five. Spurs have played some fantastic football and Maddison is just running the game,” Neville commented.

Maddison shows his class for Tottenham

ꦆThis was the sort of performance that Ange Postecoglou has been longing for from his Tottenham team.

🌞They were good in defence, excellent through midfield and up top, looked a threat all game.

꧙Indeed, as Neville mentions here, Tottenham should have had far more goals to show for their efforts.

𝄹As For Maddison, well, he was simply brilliant and took full advantage of having more time and space once United went down to ten men.

♉Tottenham need the players like Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski – who was also superb – to produce if they are to be successful and today we saw how good they both can be.

🌼Maddison showed just why Tottenham paid the money they did for him and if he can keep producing such performances, then Spurs will be more than fine.
