‘Just look forward’: Celtic midfielder Ryan Christie discusses losing key players
Celtic midfielder Ryan Christie has been discussing the club’s loss of key defensive players Mikael Lustig and Dedryck Boyata this summer.
Celtic allowed the contract of both players to expire at the end of last season. Lustig, having past his prime, was allowed to leave for Genk in an amicable fashion. The Belgian defender was a different story. Celtic tried to convince him to stay. However, riding high from last summer’s impressive World Cup displays, Boyata refused a new deal. He joined Hertha Berlin on a Bosman this summer.

Christie has about the duo’s exit from Parkhead. Whilst he admits they will be missed, the playmaker insists the Celtic players have to look to the future.
“Mika has been such a servant to the club and Dedryck as well.
“But that’s football really — players move on and you don’t really have time to sit back and think about it.
“You’re straight into the next season and other boys will be coming in to take their place.
“You don’t really have time to look back at who you are missing, you just look forward with the players you’ve got.”
Christie’s concerns will no doubt mirror plenty of Celtic fans.
However, there is a positive spin to consider.
Celtic have already signed Christoper Julien from Toulouse as Boyata’s replacement and the Frenchman could be a breakout star for the Scottish side.
Meanwhile, Lustig’s form had been patchy at best for the past 18 months. Many Celtic fans did believe it was time to replace the Swedish stalwart.
Hopefully, Celtic can rebuild in the pair’s absence and march on to another season of Scottish dominance.
