Jurrien Timber says £25m Arsenal player has been so good recently it’s ‘insane’

Arsenal are on the verge of making history as they’re now just three games away from becoming European champions.

Real Madrid were expected to beat Arsenal in the quarter-finals, but the Gunners thrashed the European champions, and now, a date with destiny awaits against PSG.

Arsenal have been tipped to beat PSG, and given how the Gunners played against Real Madrid, it’s easy to see why.

Declan Rice earned massive praise after his performances vs Real Madrid, while Mikel Merino was also singled out too.

Speaking on , Jurrien Timber has been discussing Merino’s performances as an attacker as of late, and the Dutchman was full of praise for the man.

Jurrien Timber hails Mikel Merino

Timber spoke about Merino and his performances as a number nine.

The defender says that he’s not surprised to see Merino playing so well up front, clamiing that he’s a special player.

Timber did note however that it is insane how well Merino is doing in a position that isn’t natural to him.

Merino had to move up front after Kai Havertz was ruled out for the season.

“Are you surprised by Mikel Merino’s goalscoring talents?” Timber was asked.

“No, I don’t want to say I’m surprised, but what he does is really special. Not playing in his own position, playing like this, I think it’s insane, I hope he does it for a couple more games for us as well,” Timber said.

Mikel Merino stats as a striker

Timber says it’s insane that Merino has done so well as a striker, and, when you look at the stats, it is starting just how well the Arsenal star has done.

Indeed, Merino was thrown in at the deep end as a striker, playing against the best of the best as a number nine on a weekly basis.

The Spaniard has been thriving as a striker, and the stats show just how brilliant he has been.

Nine goal contributions in 10 games as a striker in his career is a return that any world-class centre-forward would be happy with.

Arsenal will sign a new striker this summer, but having Merino up their sleeve as a third or fourth choice centre-forward option certainly isn’t a bad idea.
