Jurgen Klopp will be giving up on Rhian Brewster if Liverpool sign Timo Werner this summer
Liverpool have recently been linked with a move for RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner. that the Reds are leading the chasing pack for the German international.
The report claims that Werner has a £51 million release clause active until the end of April, meaning Liverpool or any other suitors could get the 23-year-old at a cut-price if the negotiating is done in the spring.
Werner is, of course, a top option. The attacker has scored 25 goals in 30 games this season for his club and can play either through the middle or from the left-hand side.
However, to bring in Werner the Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp would appear to be turning his back on a talented Reds youngster.
In the summer of 2018, Liverpool were first being linked with a move for Werner. made it clear that the Merseysiders had ‘no interest’ in the Leipzig star. It surprised many, given the number of reports suggesting otherwise.
The key reason why Liverpool were not keen was Jurgen Klopp’s apparent fondness for young talent Rhian Brewster. The report stated that Klopp is a ‘massive fan’ of the talented frontman.
Brewster himself had been linked with a move to the Bundesliga that summer, as first-team options at Anfield seemed scarce.
However, the report suggested that Klopp was ready to use Brewster in the first-team, once he had recovered from his injury issues.
In the end, Brewster’s return from injury was delayed. He spent most of last season recovering from ankle surgery but his absence from first-team duties was offset by the form of returning loanee Divock Origi.
This season, fully fit, Brewster has struggled to ignite Klopp’s 2018 faith in him. He has been on the bench for just one Premier League game this season and was loaned out to Swansea City in January.
So far, the England youth star has scored twice in six games for the Welsh side but will need to do much more to suggest he once again can be considered a first-team option at Anfield.
If he does, it could end up saving Liverpool a £51 million punt on Werner’s abilities. Liverpool fans will no doubt be hoping the teenager can find his feet and Klopp’s affections yet again.
