Jurgen Klopp says Takumi Minamino has looked exceptional in Liverpool training
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed that attacker Takumi Minamino has looked really good in training and promised his time will come to shine, as he’s struggled for minutes so far this season.
The 25-year-old is yet to start a single Premier League match during this campaign and is trying to fight off some huge competition for a starting position in the Reds XI.
Minamino is a versatile forward that can play in central or wide positions as part of the front three, but the arrival of in-form Diogo Jota appears to have pushed him further down the pecking order.
Despite his recent struggles, Klopp had admitted that the Japan international has caught his eye behind the scenes in training sessions and has reiterated his faith in him:
“No, there’s no dip in form. Taki is training well; yesterday, he trained exceptionally for example. It’s the last session I have in mind and he was really, really good,”
“It is just a strong team and offensively, thank God, we don’t have the same problems we have in pretty much all the other positions, so it’s hard to get into this team. That’s how it is. But there is no dip in form, it’s just a challenge. Taki is a sensational boy and a great player, he is facing that challenge, he is working hard and his time will come, no doubt.”
TBR’s View:
Minamino will feel it’s an impossible task to try break into the Liverpool team right now, but Jota is the perfect example that it’s achievable and he should take confidence from his teammate’s impact at Anfield.
He will be hoping for some minutes on Wednesday night during the home fixture against Atalanta in the Champions League group stages and it’s vital he makes the most of any chances on the pitch.
Minamino was signed by the Merseyside giants last January due to the fact he’s a quick, skilful and a direct attacker that impressed at Red Bull Salzburg, which is why he needs to try play without fear when Klopp hands him his next opportunity.
