Jurgen Klopp says ‘incredible’ Liverpool player is injured ahead of Wolves clash

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed that goalkeeper Adrian is currently out with an injury.

Speaking ahead of the Premier League trip to Wolves on Saturday, the Reds boss confirmed that Marcelo Pitaluga is currently third-choice.

Adrian is injured in the moment, so Marcelo is now No.3,” Klopp told the Liverpool .

“He’s a very young boy, but that’s all fine.”

Adrian joined Liverpool in 2019 on a free transfer from West Ham, and initially impressed at Anfield.

Shortly after signing, Adrian helped Liverpool win the European Super Cup against Chelsea, keeping out Tammy Abraham’s spot kick.

“He put in an incredible performance,” Klopp told after the game.

“Both goalkeepers did but for Adrian it was more surprising as there was no real preparation.”

Since then, however, games for Adrian have been few and far between.

Alisson Becker obviously remains first-choice for Klopp, but Adrian’s second-choice spot now belongs to Caoimhin Kelleher.

However, Adrian did get a runout earlier this season in the Carabao Cup victory over Preston.

Alisson was rested and Kelleher was absent through illness, so the 34-year-old got a start.

Adrian kept a clean sheet and Liverpool icon Mark Lawrenson, commentating on BBC Sport, deemed him “brilliant”.

That said, it’s good to see the likes of Kelleher and Pitaluga – young, up-and-coming talents – coming through the ranks.
