Jurgen Klopp says £75k-a-week Liverpool player is one of the best he’s ever trained, he’s ‘outstanding’
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has waxed lyrical about Reds midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum amid ongoing uncertainty over his Anfield future.
The 30-year-old is out of contract next season and will be able to enter negotiations with non-English clubs over a summer move as of 1 January.
Despite Klopp wanting Wijnaldum to stay, talks between player and club haven’t proven fruitful thus far.
Last month, the Netherlands international played down reports he was , but also said “we will see what happens” in the sumemer.
Speaking ahead of Liverpool’s Premier League game away at Brighton in Saturday’s early kickoff, Klopp remained positive on the subject of the ace’s future.
“As long as nothing is decided everything is possible,” he is quoted by as saying. “I am positive.”
Klopp had a similar situation on his hands in 2018 when Emre Can swapped Liverpool for Juventus on a free transfer after declining a new contract.
“He played and he gave his absolute everything until the last day of his contract and Gini will do the same, no doubt about that,” added Klopp. “No harm to our relationship forever.
“Gini is one of the best people I have ever met and he is one of the best players I’ve ever trained and he is an outstanding person so there is no issue, no issue at all.
“We are professionals. Our relationship didn’t change at all over the years – it improved obviously.
“We’ve won one or two things together, we know each other better. I’m interested in his life, he’s interested in my life, that is how it is, mine is not so spectacular really – but that is the truth.”

Wijnaldum has been a superb player for Liverpool over the years, clocking up over 200 appearances and being a key member of a team which, along with Klopp, has grown into a title-winning titan.
But while Klopp is seemingly optimistic about Wijnaldum’s future at Anfield, the fact he’s not yet penned a new deal is concerning, with January on the horizon and the potential to commit his future to another team after his Reds contract expires.
