Jurgen Klopp reacts to Emre Can’s January transfer to Borussia Dortmund

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has reacted to Emre Can’s January move to Borussia Dortmund.

The midfielder has joined the Bundesliga side on loan until the end of the season, with the Germans obligated to buy for €25 million/£21 million in the summer.

Can made his move after struggling to get regular game time with Juventus, who signed Adrien Rabiot and Aaron Ramsey last summer.

The 26-year-old had only made eight Serie A appearances, and will now be hoping for more opportunities back in his homeland.

It’s been a tricky time for Can since he left Anfield in the summer of 2018, but in the eyes of Klopp, the former Red is now in the right place.

Speaking warmly about the star, Klopp said (, ): “I am happy for BVB and Emre Can. It’s a win-win situation. Emre is just a perfect match for this club.

“BVB got a top lad, a wonderful, versatile footballer with an outstanding attitude.”

TBR’s view – Klopp praise, but no loss to Liverpool

Perhaps he’ll be out to show Liverpool what they could have had, although it’s safe to say he has not been a great loss since his departure.

Liverpool’s midfield might be the ‘weakest’ area of their team, but Klopp has brilliant players who know how to execute his gegenpress tactics perfectly.

Can was a talent, but the club have been totally fine without him. Maybe now though he’ll flourish with Klopp’s old club.
