Jurgen Klopp raves about Wolves player, says he made life hard for Liverpool duo

Jurgen Klopp has heaped praise on his centre-back duo of Nat Phillips and Ozan Kabak after the duo helped Liverpool keep another clean sheet against Wolves on Monday night – despite stating that Adama Traore caused them problems.

Phillips, 23, has combined with January recruit Kabak for three of the last five games – and Liverpool have won all three, keeping clean sheets in the process. They beat Sheffield United away, Leipzig in the second leg and then Wolves on Monday.

Diogo Jota scored against his old side while Kabak was handed the man of the match award, less than a week after Phillips was given the same honour for his performance in the 2-0 win over Leipzig. The duo are forming a solid partnership.

Klopp heaped praise on both players and the combination of Phillips and Kabak after the 1-0 win – which was overshadowed by a head injury to Rui Patricio. The Liverpool manager praised them, while also complimenting the danger of Traore.

“Great, great. Really good, both of them. It’s a tricky game because of Traore. I didn’t want to worry them even more [by discussing it pre-game], he’s really quick,” Klopp said, of Liverpool’s victory.

TBR’s view – Who starts against Arsenal, in three weeks time?

There is plenty of time between now and then, given the March international break. Liverpool travel south to take on Arsenal at The Emirates, who will have their tails up after wins over Olympiacos and Spurs – but face two more games before the break.

Liverpool might have more options to welcome back but even if they do, Phillips and Kabak deserve to play against Arsenal – given that in the club’s last two matches, the duo have won the man of the match awards. Phillips and Kabak need to start.
