Jurgen Klopp explains tactical switch which unlocked Sheffield United on Saturday

Jurgen Klopp has explained the tactical switch with Divock Origi at the heart of it which helped earn Liverpool their 1-0 victory over Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.

, Klopp said that introducing £45,000-a-week () Origi high and wide on the left and shifting Roberto Firmino into the number ten role was key to the win.

He : “We changed before the goal and Div was involved in the goal. We needed to have players in between the lines. The midfielders didn’t get that there really, Gini and Hendo didn’t come in the number ten position next to Bobby.

“It was too often that we just passed to the full-back and the positioning in the box wasn’t right for a cross. We wanted to have Bobby in between the lines and still offensive wings, so that’s what we did with Div, Mo in the centre. That’s how we scored the goal, in a situation like that, so all good.”

TBR’s View – Tactical tweaks show that Liverpool’s depth is ever improving

In the title chase last season, Liverpool could perhaps legitimately complain that Manchester City’s squad depth was superior.

But having gone into the summer as champions of Europe and failing to invest in a serious forward to bolster that Plan B, Klopp put faith in the likes of Origi to change games.

He won’t always score goals as decisive as those towards the end of last season but changing the game from the left was an important contribution on Saturday.
