Jurgen Klopp discusses performances of Liverpool duo Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

Jurgen Klopp believes Naby Keita needs time to adapt to a new role – just like Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. , Klopp is not concerned because he saw flashes of brilliance from Keita against MK Dons.

Liverpool beat MK Dons 2-0 at Stadium:MK in the Third Round of the EFL Cup. On a night where Klopp gave debuts to several youngsters, he also welcomed Keita back into the team.

The Guinea international has been out injured since the Super Cup but he returned to action in the cup. Keita’s return boosts Liverpool’s midfield options but he was not at his best against Milton Keynes.

Klopp is ready to give Keita the time to return to his best after injury. After the MK game, he said (): “We don’t have to decide it too quick on Naby. He looked really good in moments but he has to adapt to the position and you see it with Ox as well.

“Naturally you move much more and find each other and that is how it is. In moments you saw what an incredible player he is, but we don’t have to rush it now.”

TBR’s view

It is too early to write off Keita. He is a long-term project and he still has time on his hands. The 24-year-old will need time to get back to his best and start competing for regular spots.

Fabinho, Jordan Henderson and Gini Wijnaldum have formed an impressive midfield trio. It will be a tough task for Keita but if he stays fit, he has a chance of breaking his way into the team.
