It is a bitter blow for Keita, who has slowly started to make his mark at Anfield this season after taking time to adapt to life in England.

However, there was some positive news for the Reds, with Klopp confirming that Thiago, Joel Matip, and Sadio Mane are all fit and available for selection for the short trip to Goodison.

Thiago is expected to be thrust into the action, as is Liverpool skipper, Jordan Henderson. That will leave a battle in midfield between Gini Wijnaldum and Fabinho for the final place in Klopp’s trio of midfielders.

This is a bit of a nightmare for Keita who would have been hoping to continue his upward trend of form and make an impression in the biggest game of the Reds’ season so far.

However, when one door closes another opens and this is now the chance for Thiago to show everyone why he was brough into the club.

The Spaniard should relish the big occasion and may well prove pivotal in Klopp’s game-plan. Sadly for Keita, he could find himself out of the picture for a while if things go well for Liverpool.
