Jurgen Klopp comments on Liverpool youngster ahead of Barcelona clash

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has claimed 2019/2020 will be Rhian Brewster’s season, after including him in his travelling squad for the Champions League semi-final with Barcelona.

There is great optimism amongst the fans that their team can do exactly that, despite Barca having had a fine season and talisman Lionel Messi having been at his scintillating best.

Undertaking press conference duties, Klopp was asked to elaborate on his decision to include U17 World Cup winner Brewster in his travelling squad.

The German said, : “He is the next really exciting prospect. If you see him training… next season will be his season, his first real season.

“He is now physically an adult, he grew a lot, he worked a lot and the training session today was, to be honest, pretty impressive.

“He is with us, he is our player and we want to have him around. In this case I thought, ‘Come on, it’s Barcelona, let’s give him a first sniff.”

TBR’s view

Many Liverpool fans will be excited to see how Brewster fares next term.

Perhaps he might have turned out for the first-team in 2018/19 if not for the bad injury he sustained against the Manchester City U23s in January 2018.

Brewster only returned to action in March 2019, but it is clear he has a very bright future with the club.

Daniel Sturridge is set to leave the club when his contract expires and Divock Origi is not guaranteed to be sticking around, suggesting there could be space for him to make an impact.
