Jurgen Klopp claims Liverpool star Takumi Minamino has impressed him in training
Jurgen Klopp has admitted that Liverpool star Takumi Minamino got his chance on Saturday against Crystal Palace after looking “really sharp” in training.
The 25-year-old attacker was selected at the weekend for just the second time in the Premier League this season and he certainly repaid the manager’s faith in him.
Minamino netted within three minutes at Selhurst Park to start the scoring in what was a phenomenal 7-0 away victory against Palace in the Premier League.
The winger slotted in his finish into the bottom corner, plus there were goals from Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino (two), Jordan Henderson and Mohamed Salah (two).
Despite not being a regular in the side this campaign, he certainly took an opportunity to shine against Palace by playing 90 minutes and perhaps has a chance for more minutes moving forward with Diogo Jota currently injured.
Reds manager Klopp spoke about Minamino in his post-match press conference, explaining that he deserved his start on Saturday.
“In training he looked really sharp, really in a good shape – that’s why he played today,”
“He played a top game today, nice finish and just is in a good moment. That’s what we want to use. I saw him in the dressing room now and he couldn’t avoid smiling all over his face. It’s a good moment. He’s in a really good place and helps us a lot.

TBR’s View:
Minamino cost Liverpool just £7.25million (s) when they signed him back in January from Red Bull Salzburg, so there was no real financial risk behind his deal.
The skilful wide player has shown flashes of his quality so far for the Merseyside giants and he’s got a great overall work-rate, but is yet to find a consistent run of form to nail down a spot in the XI.
Liverpool teammate Jota has shown though that there is a way to get in the mix alongside the main trio of Firmino, Salah and Mane, so he needs to keep working away impressing the manager both in games and training.
