Jurgen Klopp admits Rhian Brewster loan exit could prompt Liverpool to sign a striker

Jurgen Klopp has hinted that Liverpool could sign a striker in January, .

Rhian Brewster has been linked with a loan move as Leeds United and Swansea City circle (). If the England U21 striker departs, Klopp thinks his squad will be a bit light.

Divock Origi and Roberto Firmino vie for the starting striker spot at Liverpool. But if there is an injury, then Klopp might need Brewster for the bench and to rotate with his first-choice options.

This is why Klopp could be tempted to make a signing in the January transfer window.

Klopp was quizzed on whether he would sign someone to cover if Brewster goes on loan and he said (): “Yes, we have to see. We can’t just give the boys [away] on loan because we have built this squad.

“We have three long-term injuries and four with Paul Glatzel, two of them were pre-season. Two came later with Joel (Matip) and Fabinho. That gives us a 16-player squad and I count the kids, but we cannot only give players on loan and think it is good for him, we always have to consider both situations.

“The boys and ours, and in the end, we try to make the perfect solution. Sometimes it works out, others it does not.”

Klopp added that no decision has been made yet on what to do with Brewster in January.

TBR’s view

In the long run, Brewster would benefit more from a loan spell, rather than the odd game here and there. He has only played twice – both in the EFL Cup – as Klopp slowly blends him into the side.

But Liverpool cannot afford to be left short up top if there is one or two injuries. Having Paul Glatzel back might make Klopp’s decision easier.
