Junior Firpo’s performance in Leeds draw against Brighton lauded

Junior Firpo’s performance against Brighton has been praised by Matt Kilgallon, with the former Leeds United defender that he was really impressed with the left-back on Sunday.

Jesse Marsch’s side picked up what could be a massive point in the battle to stay in the Premier League. Pascal Struijk headed home in stoppage-time to earn Leeds a draw against Brighton.

It had appeared that the Whites were set for a frustrating afternoon. They went 1-0 down during the first-half. And they struggled to create many clear chances before the break.

They did step up in the second-half. And Leeds earned themselves a point with some of the players really stepping up.

One of those to actually impress was Firpo. The left-back made his return to the starting lineup against the Seagulls. And he really seemed to step up.

It has been a hugely difficult first season at Leeds for Firpo. He has made a number of errors. And he has not looked like any sort of upgrade on Gjanni Alioski following his departure.

But he made a real difference against Brighton. He looked composed on the ball and drove the team forward on several occasions. And Kilgallon suggested that Firpo deserves a lot of credit.

“I was very impressed with him second-half,” . “He almost was a driving force from the back. He looked a lot more confident on the ball and really went for it and started off quite a few attacks.

“But I think he had a little niggle, I don’t know whether he got cramp. There was something there, wasn’t there because it looked like Llorente was going to come off at one point.”

Junior Firpo’s performance against Brighton a positive on mixed day for Leeds

Of course, the equaliser was a massive moment. The manner of the draw will give the side real belief heading into the final day. But there will be a sense that they missed an opportunity.

They will be looking to the positives. And Firpo’s performance was one of them. He has come in for a lot of criticism this term. And it will still be some time before he silences all of his doubters.

But another showing like that next weekend will mean an incredible amount to Leeds supporters.
