Juan Mata says £50m player Arsenal want to sign was absolutely outstanding during Euro 2024 final

Juan Mata hailed a rumoured Arsenal target after his performance during the Euro 2024 final between England and Spain.

The North Londoners have evidently been keeping close tabs on the European Championship as they look to bolster their ranks this summer.

Italy and Bologna defender Riccardo Calafiori caught the eye and is now set to sign a five-year deal at the Emirates Stadium.

Now, it seems they’re after another Euro 2024 star and former Manchester United and Chelsea playmaker Juan Mata heaped praise on his performance in the final.

Juan Mata hails Spain’s Nico Williams

Mata, speaking on the BBC One panel (10:28pm), heaped praise on Spain’s jet-heeled winger Nico Williams, who is a target of Arsenal.

“Everyone, of course, is obviously focusing on Lamine these days, but Nico, it’s not only the goal but the finishing and everything that he provides,” the 36-year-old said.

“For me, in the first half, he was the most dangerous player for Spain, always getting into the position, one against one.

“He can go right, he can go left, he can finish. He is always going against defenders. He is fantastic.”

Nico Williams deal will now accelerate

Now that Euro 2024 has come to a close, Arsenal’s transfer business is expected to really intensify.

Williams is attracting strong interest from The Gunners and Barcelona, most predominantly, with the pair set to lock horns for his signature.

The 2002-born is thought to have a £50m release clause, which for a player of his calibre, is extremely good value.

TBR reported last week that Barcelona had already agreed on personal terms with Williams, so Arsenal will have to get a move on otherwise they’ll miss out to the Catalan giants.

A telling few weeks lie ahead.
