Journalist thinks Nuno’s going to start 27-year-old for Tottenham v Manchester City

Alasdair Gold that he expects Eric Dier to start Tottenham Hotspur’s first game of the season.
Dier to start?
Dier has been linked with a move away from Spurs this summer.
that Tottenham would be open to selling the England international as they look to raise funds.
However, there has not been much interest in Dier, with the market for him seemingly very limited.
And even though Tottenham have their eyes on making defensive additions, Gold is expected Dier to take his place in Spurs’s backline for their game against Manchester City in two weeks’ time.
“This is where I’m really going to upset people. I’d be surprised if Dier isn’t starting that first game against Man City,” Gold said.
“I just kind of feel where we’re at now, with Romero coming in very close to the Man City game – hopefully before.
“I’d be surprised if we see a very different centre-back pairing against Manchester City.
“Alderweireld is not there, so you have one change definitely, but I’d be very surprised if Eric Dier isn’t playing in that game.”

Point to prove
Dier certainly would have a point to prove if he is given yet another season of first-team football at Tottenham.
Dier insisted that he wanted to play at centre-back rather than in defensive midfield, but he failed to convince last season under Jose Mourinho.
In fairness to the former Sporting Lisbon man, he was part of a Spurs defence which collectively struggled.
But if he is to be Romero’s main partner in Nuno’s first campaign, he will surely need to have a strong season to win over the increasing numbers of doubters.
