Journalist suggests Leeds could eventually re-sign ‘phenomenal’ player they sold

They say never go back in football, but Leeds United don’t mind re-signing their former players every now and then.

Sam Byram is a recent example of a player who has re-signed for Leeds, while there have been constant rumours about a return for James Milner and Kalvin Phillips in recent years.

Archie Gray has just left Leeds for Tottenham, and within days there’s already chat about an eventual return for the ‘’ midfielder.

Archie Gray would love to return to Leeds

Smyth spoke about Gray’s future plans.

“I should just say I don’t think it’s the last time we’ll see Gray on the back of a Leeds shirt, not just talking about Harry, I’m talking about Archie himself,” Smyth said.

“He would still love to come back and play at Leeds and he’s young enough for that to be a possibility somewhere down the line. I don’t even mean on loan from Spurs, I don’t think it will go like that.

“Somewhere down the line like Byram has done, that scenario would very much appeal to Archie Gray.”

Gray return would be years away

The idea of Archie Gray returning to Leeds is heartwarming, but this surely isn’t a move we’ll see anytime soon.

The midfielder has only just left to join Tottenham, and at the age of 18, you have to imagine that his adventure away from Elland Road is only just beginning.

Gray could come back to Leeds when he’s older, but at this point, you could be looking at that return coming 15 years from now.

Gray will continuously be linked with an emotional return to Leeds, but it will be a long time before this becomes a concrete possibility.
