Journalist shares what ‘positive’ sources are now saying about Martin Odegaard’s injury

Martin Odegaard picked up an injury on international duty with Norway this week.

The timing of this injury couldn’t have been worse for Arsenal as the Gunners gear up to face Tottenham this weekend.

There is serious fear that Odegaard could miss this game against Tottenham, and speaking on the Sky Sports Back Pages Podcast, Martin Hardy has shared an update on the Arsenal captain.

Interestingly, Hardy says that even the most positive of sources seem to suggest that Odegaard has damaged his ankle ligaments, and he’s likely to miss at least a couple of games.

Martin Odegaard injury update

The journalist shared what he’s been hearing about Odegaard.

“Yeah it’s an absolutely massive blow and even the noises that are trying to be positive suggest that it’s ligament damage. If it’s any form of ligament damage that’s him out of the next couple of games, never mind a big game so early in the season on Sunday,” Hardy said.

“You’ve lost two thirds of the midfield that is so important to Mikel Arteta. It may depend on the flipside whether Dominic Solanke is fit. The game may be dependant on which players either team can get out.”

Arsenal’s midfield will be a mess

Tottenham will be licking their lips heading into this game against Arsenal as the Gunners’ midfield will be all over the place.

In almost every game for the past 12 months, Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard have started in the middle, and in this match, both men will be out.

Thomas Partey and Jorginho isn’t the most mobile deep pairing, while after selling Emile Smith Rowe and loaning out Fabio Vieira, Arsenal don’t have a natural number 10 in the squad ready to replace Odegaard.

Tottenham head into this game at the weekend as underdogs after Arsenal’s brilliant form over the past two years, but with these injuries and suspensions, the Gunners could be in trouble.
