Journalist shares what Leeds’ financial situation really looks like after selling Archie Gray

Leeds United sold Archie Gray to Tottenham this week.

The young midfielder said goodbye to Elland Road and joined Tottenham in a deal said to be worth .

Leeds noted how heartbroken they were to sell Gray, but this was a necessary sale and it’s no coincidence that this deal was done around the June 30th accounting deadline.

Speaking on , Nancy Froston has been discussing Leeds’ financial situation after selling Gray, and she says that things are looking much more positive now and that no player sales will be necessary for the rest of the summer unless a really good offer comes in.

Leeds’ financial situation explained

Froston shared what she knows about Leeds’ finances.

“The main point to say is that as a whole the picture is fine, it’s good under the 49ers, but there was just this issue of the three-year rolling PSR period and the Championship loss allowance is lower than the Premier League,” Froston said.

“It’s safe to say that they’re now in a healther position with PSR and if they sell any other players this year it’s because they feel it’s a good deal rather than pressure of PSR losses.”

Leeds in a good position

Selling Archie Gray was painful for Leeds, but the Whites are in a very good position to kick-on from here.

Indeed, while Gray will be missed at Leeds, the reality is that the Whites still have basically the exact same squad that came so close to earning promotion last season.

Gray is a top talent, but he’s not necessarily irreplaceable in this squad, especially in his right-back role.

Leeds should be in a strong position to earn promotion this season, and while the sale of Gray has rocked the fanbase, it was a necessary move to take the club forward this season.
