Journalist shares what he’s been told about Mason’s training at Spurs

Football London journalist Alasdair Gold that he has heard several people at Tottenham Hotspur describe the quality of Ryan Mason’s training sessions as ‘excellent’.

Mason has made an encouraging start to life as Spurs interim boss. He has overseen victories in both of their Premier League games.

And, given the circumstances, positives could definitely be taken from their Carabao Cup final display against Manchester City. Mason’s stock certainly did not take a hit at Wembley.

Admittedly, Tottenham have not come up against the best opposition in the league so far. But it does appear that Mason’s appointment has had a positive impact on the squad.

And Gold – who admitted that he would be very surprised to see Mason get the job permanently – suggested that the players are having little problem buying into what the 29-year-old is trying to do.

“What I’m hearing a lot and this is from different people, is that his training sessions are excellent,” . “He’s doing really, really well in very quickly having to implement what he wants from Tottenham.

“What I personally think helps is that it’s very clear that he is a Mauricio Pochettino disciple. And I think having the bulk of players there very well aware of what Poch used to want, being able to put a lot of the similar ideas back into their heads, hopefully for Ryan Mason, isn’t too difficult to do that quickly.”

TBR View: Tottenham unlikely to ignore Mason as contender if players remain on board

Gold also hinted that Mason is not thought to be a main contender for the permanent gig. He did however, highlight that Spurs could hardly rule him out if he continues to impress.

And based on recent reports from elsewhere, it does appear that Tottenham are leaving the door open for Mason to stake a claim.

that he is emerging as a contender for the post. It was suggested that the club feel that such an appointment would appeal to the supporters.

By the sounds of it, the players are very happy working under Mason right now. Of course, they may feel differently about the prospect of him being their permanent boss.

But if he remains a popular figure amongst the squad, that surely has to be another tick under his name.
