Journalist shares what he messaged Ange Postecoglou after ‘clown’ argument during press conference
Ange Postecoglou has had an interesting few weeks at Tottenham.
Indeed, Postecoglou’s job is still at risk, but he’s been lauded as a hero in recent times after winning the Europa League.
However, prior to winning the Europa League, there were a lot of conversations around what this game meant for Postecoglou’s legacy.
Prior to the game, Ange Postecoglou actually got into an argument with a journalist about the idea he would be seen as a ‘clown’ if he lost this game.
The journalist in question was Dan Kilpatrick, and speaking on The Lab Podcast, Kilpatrick has now shared his point of view on this situation.
The journalist says that he made the wrong decision using the word ‘clown’ to describe Postecoglou here, stating that he actually messaged Postecoglou after this incident.

What Dan Kilpatrick messaged Ange Postecoglou after ‘clown’ argument
Kilpatrick shared his point of view on this incident and shared what happened in the fallout.
The journalist says he was quick to message Postecoglou privately and apologise for his clumsy wording in his article prior to the Europa League final.
“Absolutely not. I mean, I remember when I was writing it, I remember deliberating over what word to use, and I think I did consider failure. I put clown in for kind of effect because I was trying to make a sort of strong point,” Kilpatrick said.
“Look, it was a bad decision. It was the wrong decision. I didn’t know it was going to be in the headline. I can’t blame anyone else but myself because it was obviously in the copy, but I think the fact that it was in the headline really exacerbated the situation, to be honest. I wish I’d used another word.
“I messaged Ange and I apologised, and I won’t say what he said, but we had a bit of back and forth, and I think it’s all right to say that he had moved on, and he was very gracious about it.”
Ange Postecoglou’s other arguments with journalists
Kilpatrick got a dressing down from Postecoglou after he suggested he was a clown, and he’s not the only journalist to feel the Spurs boss’ wrath.
Indeed, Postecoglou has been frosty with the media on a number of occasions, and this is a rather common occurrence.
Sam Allardyce wants Postecoglou to improve with the media, while Leon Osman has said Postecoglou can be frosty at times.
The Australian does seem to allow what is said and written about him to affect him, and, in this game and this line of work, you need thicker skin than that if you’re going to succeed at the very highest level.
