Journalist shares what he knows about Giovani Lo Celso potentially leaving Tottenham today

January has come and gone, but transfer season isn’t over just yet.

Indeed, the Turkish transfer window is still open until the close of play on Friday, and, as always, the big Turkish clubs are eyeing some Premier League cast-offs.

We all know how much the Turkish sides love to sign a big name from the Premier League, and this week, Giovani Lo Celso from Tottenham has been linked with a move to Galatasaray.

The midfielder is said to be a target for the Istanbul outfit, but according to Tom Barclay, speaking on , the Argentine will not be on the move on Turkish deadline day.

Giovani Lo Celso will stay at Tottenham

Barclay shared what he knows about these rumours.

“The suggestion had been in the Turkish media that Galatasaray had been interested in doing a last-minute deal from their point of view this month. The Turkish window is open until February 9th, so English teams can still sell, but my understanding is that Lo Celso will be staying at Tottenham in this window,” Barclay said.

“My understanding is that he’s likely to stay for the rest of the season, and then in the summer he’ll have one year left on his contract, but if he hasn’t proved himself by them from a fitness point of view more than anything, you wouldn’t be surprised if he moved on by then.”

Right call

Tottenham are making the right call here in keeping Lo Celso.

The Argentine isn’t exactly the most important player in this Tottenham side, but he’s a very useful depth option as he has shown this season.

The midfielder has helped massively during James Maddison’s time on the sidelines earlier this season, and given that Maddison does have a lengthy injury history, Lo Celso may well be needed again later this season.

Spurs are making a wise choice in keeping hold of Lo Celso at this point.
