Journalist shares what happens in Man United’s dressing room when Lisandro Martinez isn’t around

Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez’s presence is a huge miss from the dressing room when he is out injured.

Defeat on the weekend for Erik ten Hag’s men saw their Champions League chase take a major blow as Aston Villa secured three points.

And the Red Devils were once again without Lisandro Martinez on the weekend as he continues to recover from a knee injury.

Lisandro Martinez injury latest

The 26-year-old centre-back has now been missing for a number of weeks having sustained ligament damage in United’s victory over West Ham United.

He has now missed the three Premier League games since that game at Old Trafford.

Speaking on , journalist Alex Crook has weighed in on what a huge miss the Argentine is to have around when he is out through injury.

He said: ‘It’s interesting you mention Lisandro Martinez, he is a real fans’ favourite as much for his industry and leadership as for his footballing ability.

‘I am told when he is not in the dressing room, and he has missed a lot of games this season, that it is a very quiet dressing room. There aren’t too many leaders out there. You can see that on the pitch.’

Huge miss for Ten Hag

Just as United thought they were getting their top four chase well underway, defeat to Fulham set them back in their pursuit.

Villa now hold an eight point cushion over them as Ten Hag’s injuries also continue to tally up.

The in-form Rasmus Hojlund was also absent on the weekend after sustaining a muscular injury.

However, it seems it is not just on the pitch where United are missing some of their injured stars.

As Crook alluded to, a lack of leadership in the current United side may be one of the reasons behind their turbulent season so far.

And having their centre-back missing for the majority of the term is certainly no benefit to what they are trying to achieve.

Martinez has only been able to make eight appearances in the Premier League this season which has seen the likes of Harry Maguire fill in for him.

United have lacked consistency this season, and having important players missing for large periods through injury is certainly far from ideal.
