Football London’s Arsenal correspondent Chris Wheatley has claimed that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette and Nicolas Pepe could all leave Arsenal together at the end of this season.

The Gunners spent more money than any other club in the Premier League last summer but it still looks like they need a lot of help. The January market is a difficult one to get deals done, which puts all the focus on the transfer window before the start of the next campaign.

Arsenal have been linked with a number of names already. However, to bring in big players, Mikel Arteta will have to offload a few of his top earners first.

Wheatley believes that three of Arsenal’s most expensive signings of the last decade could all be shown the door in July.

Chris Wheatley: Aubameyang, Lacazette and Pepe could leave Arsenal in 2022

The journalist wrote in an article on : “Mikel Arteta has previously said that he wants to show “trust” in his players if they make mistakes, but it’s quite clear that Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is eroding that trust with his performances of late.

“Aubameyang has started most of his games this season as the central striker, compared to last campaign where he found himself isolated on the left-wing. The Gabon forward has missed two relatively simple opportunities in Arsenal’s past two league games, which would have almost certainly salvaged a point from each of those matches.

“He is a confidence player and right now that appears to be eroded.

“A summer transfer certainly can’t be ruled out and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the likes of Alexandre Lacazette, Nicolas Pepe and Aubameyang leaving together when July comes around.”

A lot was expected of Aubameyang, Lacazette and Pepe at Arsenal. The Gunners forked out for the Gabon star, for the ex-Lyon man and an eye-watering on the Ivorian over the last four-and-half years.

That’s a combined expenditure of £174.5 million on three players and Arsenal won’t even get half of that back.

Lacazette is expected to walk away for free in the summer once his contract comes to an end. Aubameyang will enter the final year of his deal next summer as well, which means that his transfer value won’t be that high either.

Pepe, Arsenal’s record-signing, will arguably fetch the most amount of money, but it won’t be anything near the that Unai Emery spent on him back in 2019.

That is a shame for Arsenal, but the best thing for all parties now would be to move on.
