Football journalist Dean Jones has claimed that Moussa Diaby is Newcastle United’s priority target this summer, but PSV Eindhoven star Noni Madueke is also reportedly on Eddie Howe’s transfer shortlist.

The Magpies have already made a huge move by signing Sven Botman from Lille. The Dutchman is a fantastic defender, and he will make Newcastle considerably stronger than they were last season.

Now, Howe’s plan is to improve his attack and a new wide player is on his wish list. Bayer Leverkusen star Diaby has been heavily linked for a while now, and he is apparently Newcastle’s top target.

However, if they can’t land the Frenchman, Madueke could well be the one.

Newcastle could move for Noni Madueke if they can’t sign Moussa Diaby

Speaking to , Dean Jones revealed that one of his sources informed him that Newcastle’s links with Madueke should be taken seriously.

He said: “Moussa Diaby 100 per cent is still the guy that they want in that role, but Madueke, he’s on the list.

“I checked with someone is this a rumour we should take seriously, and they said, ‘yeah, he’s on the list at the moment. It’s not particularly far along, but it’s being worked upon.’

“So, that in itself is something I guess that Newcastle fans should be excited about.”

Moussa Diaby vs Noni Madueke in 2021/22

Both Diaby and Madueke are fantastic young footballers, but how did they fare last season?

In the 2021/22 campaign, Diaby scored 17 goals and provided 14 assists in all competitions. He was one of the best attackers in the Bundesliga, and he’s one player destined to become a real star in the very near future.

On the other hand, Madueke, , managed nine goals and six assists for PSV in all competitions last season. However, it is important to note that he’s almost three years younger than Diaby.

Numbers show that the Bayer Leverkusen man is definitely the one that Newcastle should be going for, but if they can’t get him, Madueke would not be a bad signing at all.
