Journalist says he’s been told something ‘strange’ about Martin Zubimendi after he rejected Liverpool
Martin Zubimendi has rejected a move to Liverpool, instead opting to stay at Real Sociedad.
There’s a lot to be said about a player who would reject Liverpool for what is, historically, a mid-table La Liga outfit.
Zubimendi has been fiercely loyal to Real Sociedad over the years, and, in a lot of ways, it’s tough to wrap your head around why Zubimendi keeps turning down these big clubs.
According to Steve Kay, speaking on KS1 TV, Zubimendi has quite a strange view of his future, with the journalist claiming that Zubimendi doesn’t care at all about playing for a big club.
Martin Zubimendi doesn’t care about getting a big move
According to Kay, Zubimendi isn’t fussed on joining a top club after rejecting Liverpool.
“This doesn’t surprise me, he did the same thing to Arsenal. That was last year. He’s done the same to Liverpool. According to people I’ve been talking to he’s a strange man, he’s a strange character,” Kay said.
“He’s someone who doesn’t care about playing for teams like Liverpool, Man Utd and Arsenal. He’s happy to play where he is, finish fourth, fifth or sixth. He loves where he lives and that’s him. The Matt Le Tissier of La Liga I suppose,” Kay said.

Zubimendi’s loyalty is to be admired
Some may say it’s strange that Zubimendi doesn’t want to join a top club, but in a lot of ways, this is something to be admired.
Loyalty is something that is lost in football these days, with the rise of the Saudi Pro League and state-funded clubs, it’s easier than ever for top players to just follow the money.
However, Zubimendi is settled at Real Sociedad, he’s happy being close to home and representing his boyhood club.
Zubimendi could well end up spending his entire career at Real Sociedad as he’s shown no intent to leave San Sebastian so far.
