Journalist predicts whether Richarlison is going to leave Tottenham this summer
Journalist Jack Pitt-Brooke has shared whether he currently thinks Richarlison is more likely to stay at Tottenham Hotspur or leave in the summer transfer window as speculation over the forward’s future persists.
Richarlison is one of the Tottenham players with a question mark hanging over his future heading into what would be his third season with the club. Of course, it has been a turbulent time for the Brazilian since his move from Everton.
There were much brighter signs last year, with Richarlison enjoying a ‘magnificent’ spell around the turn of the year. Nevertheless, it seems that Tottenham are open to selling Richarlison this summer.
Spurs are yet to sign a senior striker since selling Harry Kane, so interest from Saudi Arabia in the 27-year-old may present an opportunity for Ange Postecoglou’s side to bolster their transfer kitty considerably.
Journalist predicts whether Richarlison will leave Tottenham in this window
Richarlison has insisted he will not be leaving England this summer. And speaking on podcast, Pitt-Brooke believes that it is becoming increasingly likely that he will be staying put as the new Premier League season looms.
“There’s been a lot of interest in Richarlison from Saudi Arabia, I feel like if Spurs want to sell him for £60 million, they probably can do. But that is only worth doing if you can go into the market and get a better replacement than Richarlison. And we can argue whether Richarlison has paid back his £50 million initial fee from Everton, I think probably not really on balance so far, but he had that run where he scored nine in 11 in December and January last year,” he said.

“And if – a big if – he can replicate that bit of form over the whole course of this season, then I think he’s probably worth sticking with, because there aren’t that many, if you’re looking for a striker who can come in, replace Richarlison, who they can buy this window and who will score more consistently in the Premier League than Richarlison, you’re looking at a pretty narrow band of players. It’s very well saying, ‘wouldn’t it be great if they had Alexander Isak up front’, Isak would cost closer to double what they would get in for Richarlison if they were to do that. So it’s not like there are tonnes of number nines out there and they can just go to the supermarket and buy one with the Richarlison money and a little bit extra.
“So if I had to guess, my guess is they’ll probably stick rather than twist on Richarlison at the moment, just because the closer we get to the start of the season, the bigger challenge it would be to sell him and then buy an improvement. So the fact that he hasn’t gone yet makes me think that maybe he will stay.”
Plenty to come from Spurs in the summer
It does feel as though Tottenham’s biggest business is still to come in this window, with the likes of Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray signed with one eye on the future.
Postecoglou is not afraid to put his faith in younger players, but Spurs are looking to take a step forward after a promising first year with the Australian in charge. So it would be no surprise if they did sign more established names before the deadline passed.
That may be when it becomes clearer what the future holds for Richarlison, particularly if Tottenham need to sell before they can make marquee moves.
But if he does stay, his form midway through last season hints that he could yet have a very important role to play at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
