Journalist claims 48-year-old shouldn’t be written off as Spurs’ next manager just yet

Alasdair Gold has urged Tottenham Hotspur fans not to write off Brendan Rodgers as a potential candidate for the Spurs hotseat.

Tottenham are currently on the lookout for a new permanent manager after sacking Jose Mourinho in April.

Numerous coaches have been linked with Spurs, including Rodgers, who has done a superb job at Leicester City over the past few years.

This season, the Foxes are once again in the running for a Champions League place and have also reached the FA Cup final.

According to , Rodgers has no interest in talking to Spurs about their vacancy, and believes Leicester have the potential to regularly challenge for European places.

However, Gold doesn’t think the 48-year-old can be discounted just yet, although he acknowledges it’ll be a challenge for Tottenham to land him.

“Brendan Rodgers fits that mould [of what Tottenham are looking for],” Gold said on his YouTube . “There’s a part of me that thinks Rodgers would like the Tottenham job;

“But there’s another part of me who thinks he would have to sit down and tell himself that it’s likely Leicester are going to be in the Champions League, they won the Premier League a few years ago, what are you doing Brendan?

“He’d be really expensive as he has four years left on his big six-year deal.

“It’s whether Spurs felt it was just ‘we’ve saved that money with Mourinho moving to Roma, let’s try and offer a load for a man who can get us really pushing on again’.

“Leicester wouldn’t let him go without a fight though and why would you give up Champions League football?

“That’s a big call, especially after recent comments. A lot would have to happen in the coming weeks for that situation to turn around.

“But I wouldn’t write Rodgers off entirely, it would just be a tough deal to do.”
