James Tavernier is something of a divisive figure at Ibrox. Handed the Rangers captaincy by Steven Gerrard in the summer, he can certainly be a frustrating player.
Going forward he is occasionally unstoppable. He has a tremendous delivery and pace to burn often leaving defenders scrambling. However, his end product is inconsistent and defensive he clearly has his frailties.
But today he was in fine form as Rangers went top of the Scottish Premiership. Tavernier delivered two set-pieces which led to both of Rangers goals in the 2-1 win over Hearts.

It was a performance which received praise from a former Rangers player. Josh Windass, who sent out this tweet during the game:
Tav is a top top right back ??
— Joshua Windass (@WindassJnr)
Windass, like Tavernier, was a player who suffered from inconsistency at Ibrox. Occasionally brilliant, often frustrating, he wore the patience of the vociferous Rangers fanbase.
Tavernier, however, deserves praise. His performance v Hearts was exceptional and when he is on form he is clearly the best right-back in Scotland.
If he can just ensure this sort of performance is the norm, then Rangers fans will soon appreciate the change.
