Joseph Yobo comments on Henry Onyekuru’s failed Everton stint
Former Everton defender Joseph Yobo has been discussing his countryman Henry Onyekuru’s recent struggles at Monaco and his Everton disappointment.
Signed from KAS Eupen in ato be worth £7 million in 2017, the 22-year-old has never qualified for clearance to play in the UK. He, therefore, left Goodison Park without ever having played a competitive game for Everton.
After impressing on loan at Galatasaray there were plenty of suitors for his services. Everton sold the player to French side Monaco this summer for a fee in the region of £12 million.
He has since struggled to have an impact with the Monegasque club and is being linked with a potential exit in January.
Yobo, who played over 200 league games at Goodison Park, f his disappointment that it did not work for Onyekuru at Everton. He went on to suggest that the Nigerian should find his way out of Monaco as soon as possible.
“It is sad he (Onyekuru) couldn’t find a chance to play in Everton.
“He is a great talent. His failure to secure a work permit didn’t allow him play for Everton. The English Premier League is one of the best leagues in the world, but it can be a big disadvantage when you don’t play.
“His performance for Galatasaray last season was exceptional but his time in Monaco has not been good and leaving the club is the best option for him.”

Everton fans were always fairly excited about Onyekuru’s potential and his failure to get a work permit was certainly a disappointment to many.
Now his latest struggles suggest that Everton have perhaps done well to earn a profit on a player that never even kicked a ball in anger for the Toffees.
Here’s hoping he can make the right decision for his career in January, whatever that might be.
