Jose Mourinho says three Tottenham players will miss Ludogorets trip

Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho has told his pre-Ludogorets press conference – – that three players will miss the trip to Belgium ahead of Thursday’s Europa League clash, including a summer signing.

Spurs will be desperate to secure three points on Thursday after losing to Royal Antwerp last time out in the Europa League. Mourinho will want his side to secure qualification from the group as soon as possible and win over Ludogorets will help that.

Mourinho made a huge number of changes to his side last time out, and it remains to be seen if he will make as many this time around – given he made four subs at half-time against Antwerp. However, he will be without three players.

Indeed, he has confirmed that Sergio Reguilon will miss out through illness – though not related to the pandemic. Serge Aurier and Erik Lamela have picked up injuries too, and are unlikely to feature before the international break.

“Reguilon is ill, just flu and we don’t want him to be with the team,” “Lamela was having a little problem for a few weeks and after the last game.

“We decided that was the moment to stop and have this week plus the two weeks of internationals out to recover fully and Aurier a little problem, nothing important. He decided that with the medical team.”

TBR’s view – Who will start instead of the unavailable trio?

Lamela has been in and out of the side throughout the campaign and while he has shone in glimpses, Spurs have plenty of options to replace the Argentine. Son Heung-min is likely to be rested, but Lucas Moura or Steven Bergwijn could start.

Ben Davies should replace Sergio Reguilon on the left side of the defence, while Matt Doherty should come in for Aurier. Mourinho, though, will still surely field a strong side given his disappointment against Antwerp last time out.
