Jose Mourinho reacts as Spurs announce Ben Davies withdrawal from Wales squad

Jose Mourinho has praised Ben Davies on Instagram following the announcement that the Tottenham Hotspur defender has withdrawn from the Wales squad due to injury.

Davies came on for the final 33 minutes of Spurs’ win over Aston Villa at the weekend after Sergio Reguilon needed to come off with a problem of his own.

That appearance came after the 27-year-old got 90 minutes under his belt during the hugely disappointing defeat to Dinamo Zagreb a couple of days earlier.

Unfortunately for Davies, it appeared that the game-time had taken its toll on the left-back. that he had had to withdraw from the Wales squad.

It turns out however, that Davies was already struggling before his latest appearance.

Mourinho was amongst those to reply to Spurs’ announcement on Instagram. And he praised Davies as he revealed that he had already played through the pain barrier at the weekend…

Selfishly, Mourinho will be pleased that Davies – who earns £60,000-a-week, – is set for a break. Reguilon has issued a positive update on his fitness. But it was a concern when he came off on Sunday.

Spurs will welcome all the luck that they can get over the coming months. They are three points off the top four, but they are not the only team chasing Chelsea by any means.

Davies’s form seems to have disappointed some Tottenham fans in recent times. But he is a fantastic understudy to have for Reguilon.

So Davies missing the international break could be a blessing for Spurs – obviously depending on how serious the problem is.
